Special Projects

BECT has carried out special projects for the benefit of those who have been victimised by wild elephant depredations.

The BECT constructed a bridge across the Kuda Oya at Thaligamayaya in Galpaya which is on the western boundary of the Udawalawa National Park.

The bridge was a boon for the villages in this area, since they had to undergo great difficulty without a bridge. The cost of the bridge was Rs 3.5 million and was funded by the Marjo Hoedemaker Elephant Foundation in Holland.

In 2009, the BECT constructed a community hall which was necessary for the villages in the Galpaya area which is on the western boundary of the Udawalawa National Park, since there was no proper hall for their common use.

The cost of this hall was Rs. 3 million and was funded by the Marjo Hoedemaker Elephant Foundation in Holland.
